Lares Valley – Machu Picchu 4 Days / 3 Nights
Our agency offers a unique adventure to Lares Valley. Unlike the popular Inca Trail, your trip through the Lares Valley takes you through the very heart of the Andes to places truly remote and known by only a few. This incredible hike will introduce you to beautiful Andean countryside including views of Andean glaciers. The trip ends with a tour of the Incan sanctuary of Maccupicchu.
Day 1: Cusco – Lares – Wacawasi
We pick you up at your hotel very early and set out for the Sacred Valley en route to the province of Calca. A trip of approximately 2.5 hours finds us in the Lares district, known for their medicinal thermal baths. From there we begin a hike of approximately 2.5 towards our first campsite, Wacawasi.
We spend the night and have dinner at Wacawasi, with ample time to meet and mingle with the local residents.
Day 2: Wacawasi – Laguna de Ipsaycocha
After breakfast we continue our hike, ultimately reaching the highest point in the valley. Here we will again encounter some of the local residents and have the opportunity to observe the skill and brilliant techniques that go into making various Andean fabrics and articles of clothing. From here we we begin the climb toward “Condor Pass”, situated at 4100 meters above sea level. After the pass we find ourselves along side the magnificent “Mt. Veronica”, her summit reaching to 5750m. Then begins a descent of about an hour to our final campsite at Laguna(Lake)de Ipsaycocha.
Day 3: Laguna de Ipsaycocha – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes
Today we travel by train with a wonderful view of a typical Andean valley. Our descent brings us to the village of Huyloc where we stop for lunch. After a 2-hour trip from Huyloc, we arrive at Pumamarka and a chance to view its marvelous agricultural terraces. Next stop is Ollantaytambo. Considered one of the most important living museums in the world, Ollantaytambo rests in a fertile valley of rivers and streams surrounded by immense mountains. Once an Incan fortress, you will be amazed by the vast archeological remains seen here. From here we continue by train to Agua Calientes, at the foot of Machu Picchu. Here you will spend the night in your hotel.
Day 4: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Ollantaytambo – Cusco
After a 5:00am breakfast we take a van up to Machu Picchu. After registering with the local authorities, you will meet your guide for a tour of approximately 1.5 hours. You will then have the opportunity to wander about the site on your own or make the difficult climb to Huayna Picchu. This is not an adventure for every visitor and you must sign documents prior to entering. Our return trip to Ollantaytambo will be by train and from there you will travel by van to your hotel in Cusco.
