Machu Picchu is citadel that conveys energy and power, a place of supreme importance to the Inca civilization and empire. It is known worldwide as an architectural jewel, yet for centuries passed unnoticed to the outside world. Located on a peak in the middle of the Andean jungle, you will also be amazed by the natural beauty which surrounds it. Below Machu Picchu you will have the opportunity to enjoy the thermal springs of Agua Caliente and the warmth of the local residents.
Our tour will begin when we pick you up at your hotel. We will take you to the village of Ollantaytambo, roughly a 2 hour trip, where you board the train for Machu Picchu. This is also a roughly 2-hour trip where we encourage to enjoy the spectacular scenery the Urubamba River Valley has to offer.
Upon arrival in Agua Calientes we will be met by hotel staff and taken for check-in. You will be free to do whatever you chose in the afternoon. We recommend either the Machu Picchu Museum or the thermal baths. There is plenty of time to do both.
Day 2 begins with a very early breakfast. We then board a bus for the very steep climb to Machu Picchu. (The ascent can be hiked but there are time constraints if you chose to do so. You will also lose the services of a guide unless other arrangements are made).
Upon arrival at Machu Picchu you will be met by your guide and after check-in with the park authorities you begin your tour of archeological marvel that Machu Picchu represents. You will have a tour of about 2 hours during which your guide will relate the historic legacy of Machu Picchu and answer any questions you might have.
You will then be free to wander about the complex as you choose. You may also make the challenging climb to Wayna Picchu and enjoy the breathtaking view from its summit. Later we return to Agua Calientes for lunch, then board the train for our return trip to Otallantaytambo, and from there a van ride to your lodgings in Cusco.
