Day 1: Arequipa – basecamp at the volcano Misti
You are picked up from the hotel at Arequipa in the morning and our transport will bring you to our starting point at the base of volcano Misti (3,300 m).
During the climb we will pass through various areas of altitude, see the flora changes as we are climbing higher.
We will set up our camp at 4,700 m. altitude. From here you will have an unforgettable and breathtaking view of the with city of Arequipa. We’ll have a hot dinner, during we have local legends and history of the Misti and Chachani volcanoes (in 1998, an expedition found six Inca mummies in the volcano).
Day 2: Basecamp to the volcano crater
Let’s start the day taking a very early breakfast before starting the ascent. Then it’s time to face the top of the volcano. They are about 6 hours walking through increasingly clear view of the surrounding landscape. Once we reach the summit, we will have excellent views of the stunning scenery of the Chachani and Picchu Picchu, dam of Aguada Blanca, lake Salinas and the white city of Arequipa, under the shadow of perfectly conical Misti. On a hot day we can see the pacific ocean in the distance. You’ll also be perfectly amazed at the crater of the volcano.
After the walk you will see, that the descent is fairly easy. Sand and ash will help you slow down when needed. Once we reach the base camp we will pack and then continue the descent to reach our pickup point, from where we will return to Arequipa in our private transport, arriving at about 4pm.
