Called the “Temple of the Sun”, its amazing stone construction and architecture show that it was the most important temple of the Incan Empire.
Called by the Incans “The House of the Sun” it served as a religious center of great importance. Constructed late in the Incan dynasty, it is located approximately 3 miles from the city center.
Located 1km from Saqsayhuaman, another ceremonial site dominated by an enormous central monolith. It is possible the monolith represented some type of animal, their principal object of worship. The monolith is surrounded by “niches” where it is believed offerings would be placed.
An ancient outpost, probably serving some form of security function. These are found all along the Inca Trail.
