The Piuray Lagoon (3762 m – 12343 ft), it´s located in the town of Chincheros, this lagoon provides water to the entire city of Cusco since the time of the incas through subway canals.
An Inca trail leaves from the lagoon to Huchuyqosqo (Sacred Valley) inca manufacturing site, reconstructed by Viracocha Inca and used as a ceremonial center of worship to the lightning and rain, also as a resting place of the Inca in the Sacred Valley.
DAY 01: CUSCO – HUCHUYQOSQO – CUSCO.
This excursion will take us approximately 08 hours of trekking (including breaks, snacks and visit to the archaeological complex), crossing ecological levels such as Quechua, Suni and Puna, with its characteristic flora and fauna.
We will leave Cusco early in the morning and we will take the north road towards the sacred valley to the town of Chinchero, where we will be able to appreciate the extensive cultivated fields, used since ancient times, we will walk along one of the banks of the Piuray Lagoon, until to arrive to the community of Tauca (3762 m/ 12343 ft), where our hike begins.
We take a trail of gently sloped to the pass of Pucajasa (4393 m/ 14413 ft), where we will have a spectacular view of the Urubamba Mountain Range. This pass has a distance of approximately 200 meters. We begin the descent, and we will find parts of the Inca trail, as well as, we can appreciate the radical changes between the ecological floors.
We will arrive at Huchuyqosqo (3688 m), where we will enjoy our snack. After a brief rest, we will begin the visit to the archaeological complex and then descend to the village of Lamay (2938 m), where we will take our transportation back to the city of Cusco.
